Dear SME Families,

Spring has arrived … and we welcome longer days, the anticipation of spring break, and the final remaining month in this school year!  This year our state standardized tests, the STAR tests, will take place during the second two weeks of May for students in grades 2 – 5.  These tests are very important as they also give us the opportunity to evaluate the success of individual students towards achieving grade level standards.  Classroom teachers have been preparing our students for these difficult tests throughout the year.  They focus daily teaching on the California content standards and beyond.  They are also teaching test-taking skills in order to familiarize students with the type of questions and problems that will be presented.

San Marcos Elementary is a great place to learn and together we can make a difference!

Read to Succeed!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Wallace

Parents can help their child to do his/her best on the tests by doing the following:

1.      Avoid absences that are not related to illness on testing days

2.      Make sure your child arrives at school on time; if they are late they will sit in the office until the testing period is over and have to make up the test (WE BEGIN TESTING RIGHT AT 8:45)

3.      Make sure your child gets a good night sleep

4.      Encourage your child to eat a good breakfast

5.      Remind your child to ask questions if he/she does not understand test directions

6.      Let your child know that you have confidence in his/her ability to do his/her best

7.      Advise your child not to worry about the testing – just do the best he/she can

Please be aware that during testing times, we will not interrupt classes.  We know our students will do GREAT!  Thanks for all your help and support at home.
